Conversation with 2018 Aurora Humanitarians

The meeting was held on June 6, 2018 at the American University of Armenia in Yerevan. The 2018 Aurora Humanitarians met with the Armenian youth to introduce their work, name the causes that motivate them, and discuss the support that they need to deliver tangible change in their communities.

Kyaw Hla Aung, Fr. Héctor Tomás González Castillo and Sunitha Krishnan were named 2018 Aurora Humanitarians for their exceptional courage, far-reaching impact and endless commitment to preserving human life and advancing humanitarian causes in the face of adversity. Stephen Kurkjian, former Washington Bureau Chief and Founder of Investigative Column Spotlight, The Boston Globe, who moderated the discussion, expressed his gratitude to these extraordinary people by saying: “Your work honors us, challenges us, inspires us, and there is no one who doesn’t win. We are all winners, being in your presence. Thank you so much for your individual work and for pointing us all in the humanitarian direction.”

The meeting was also attended by 2016 Aurora Prize Laureate Marguerite Barankitse, 2016 Aurora Humanitarians Syeda Ghulam Fatima and Father Bernard Kinvi, and Aurora Humanitarian Initiative Co-Founder Vartan Gregorian. 2017 Aurora Prize Laureate Doctor Tom Catena and Aurora Humanitarian Initiative Co-Founder Ruben Vardanyan have joined the conversation from Artsakh by video link to greet the audience.
