Nominations now closed. Here’s what happens next

October 1, 2015 – The call for nominations has closed for the inaugural Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity. On behalf of Co-Founders Ruben Vardanyan, Noubar Afeyan, and Vartan Gregorian, 100 LIVES would like to thank everyone who participated.

“We are humbled by the stories of selflessness, courage, strength and generosity,” said Prize co-founder Ruben Vardanyan. “What we have received is proof that the world is full of inspiring and worthy individuals.”

With nominations now closed, here’s what to expect: Nine global humanitarian leaders comprising the Prize’s Selection Committee will convene later this year to identify a shortlist of eligible candidates. Nominees will then be reviewed based on the degree to which they demonstrate courage, commitment and impact—along with supporting evidence.

Fellow Co-Chair Elie Wiesel acknowledged the importance of the deliberations ahead. “I look forward to reviewing the eligible nominees. It is critical that we recognize exceptional acts of humanity at a time when the world is confronting an escalation of humanitarian crises, and resources are in ever-shorter supply.”

In February 2016, the Selection Committee will announce the finalists. And later in April 2016, the inaugural Prize winner will be honored with a $100,000 award, as well as the unique ability to continue the cycle of giving by nominating an organization which inspired their work for a $1,000,000 grant. Selection Committee Co-Chair George Clooney will host a special ceremony in Yerevan, Armenia where the recipient will be announced.
