INTRODUCING THE AURORA PRIZE SELECTION COMMITTEE

100 LIVES is delighted to introduce the Selection Committee Members of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity 2016.

The Aurora Prize Selection Committee is comprised of nine exceptional humanitarians from around the globe whose extraordinary achievements give them a unique perspective into what humanitarian endeavors deserve to be given global recognition.

“The Aurora Prize is delighted to have such a remarkable group of individuals united in their commitment to the principles of humanitarianism and social justice,” said Ruben Vardanyan, 100 LIVES co-founder. “Throughout their careers, each of them have championed the values that the Prize seeks to encourage and celebrate, and we welcome the insight and wise counsel they will bring to the selection process.”

The Selection Committee will be made up of nine members:

  • George Clooney – Co-founder, Not On Our Watch; Humanitarian, performer and filmmaker
  • Elie Wiesel – President of the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity; Nobel Laureate
  • Hina Jilani – Former United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Human Rights Defenders
  • Vartan Gregorian – Co-Founder, 100 LIVES; President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York
  • Gareth Evans – Former President Emeritus of the International Crisis Group; Former Australian Foreign Minister
  • Mary Robinson – Former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Former President of Ireland
  • Oscar Arias –Two-time President of Costa Rica; Nobel Laureate
  • Shirin Ebadi – Human Rights Lawyer and Iran's first female judge; Nobel Laureate
  • Leymah Gbowee – Executive Director of the Women Peace and Security Network (WIPSEN-Africa); Nobel Laureate

The Selection Committee will review nominations and invite all of the finalists to the inaugural Aurora Prize ceremony in Yerevan, Armenia in April 2016.
