Richard Kojan

Dr. Richard Kojan is a critical care specialist and anesthesiologist with over two decades of clinical experience in low- and middle-income countries. He has practiced emergency and intensive care medicine in some of the world’s most challenging humanitarian settings, including conflict zones, natural disasters, and epidemic outbreaks. Dr. Kojan has played a key role in the clinical response to emerging infectious diseases such as Ebola, Marburg, Lassa Fever, COVID-19, and Mpox. He is known for co-developing the innovative Portable Biosecurity Emergency Care Unit (CUBE), which enhances patient care and enables clinical research in resource-limited environments. 

A former president of ALIMA (The Alliance for International Medical Action) and a long-time contributor to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Dr. Kojan continues to collaborate with international teaching hospitals, UN agencies, and global research institutions across Africa, Europe, and North America. He serves on the scientific committee of the inter-university hemorrhagic fever program at the University of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and remains deeply engaged in improving care standards and advancing research in infectious disease outbreaks.
