Prominent Russian orientalist Mikhail Piotrovsky has been the head of St. Petersburg’s State Hermitage Museum, one of the world’s greatest museum complexes, for over 20 years. Piotrovsky’s interest in the Orient is no accident: his parents were renowned archaeologists Boris Piotrovsky and Hripsime Djanpoladjian, while he himself was born in Yerevan.
