On January 16, 2025, the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative and UWC International hosted an interactive webinar, “Humanitarian Projects in Action: Addressing Gender-Based Violence,” bringing together 2024–2025 Young Aurora participants for an insightful discussion on combating gender-based violence and empowering vulnerable communities.
The session was introduced by Sallie Lynch, Director of Development at the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, and Marta Escanuela, Engagement Officer at UWC International. The keynote presentation was delivered by Nosipho Gwebu Storer, Founder and Director of Goshen and Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA alumna (1992–1997). Drawing from over two decades of experience in public health and community development, Nosipho shared her journey in establishing Goshen, a shelter in Eswatini dedicated to supporting women and children escaping gender-based violence. She highlighted the shelter’s comprehensive approach, which includes immediate safety, counseling, medical care, economic empowerment, and legal aid to help survivors rebuild their lives.
Following the presentation, Sallie Lynch moderated an engaging Q&A session, providing students with the opportunity to interact with Nosipho and gain deeper insights into the challenges and solutions in addressing gender-based violence and other social issues.
