The performance was accompanied by a special video mapping illustrated with excerpts of Armenian manuscripts and a special art piece of 17th century, “Holy Mother of Sevan” that played an essential role in the life of Mekhitar of Sebaste, founder of the Order of the Mekhitarists. The painting symbolizes the eternal love of a mother for her child.
In 1692, then 16-year-old deacon Mekhitar of Sebaste spent 10 days on the Island of Sevan, Armenia. There, he prayed before this icon and had a vision of the Holy Mother who encouraged him to embark on the journey of creating the congregation by saying: “Let it be!”
