On the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day on April 24, 2018, “Chronicles of Aurora,” a unique manuscript created in the 21st century, was presented in Matenadaran. The hand-written tome contains the depictions of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative activities. Each year a new record of 365 words (366 on leap years) will be added, dedicated to the stories of the Aurora Humanitarians and the Laureate, as well as the Aurora Prize impact. 2018 Aurora Humanitarians are also featured in the Chronicles.
In 2016, when the Aurora Humanitarians and Laureate were announced for the first time, the date of April 24 gained new meaning. In the following years the addition of the Aurora Humanitarians’ stories to the Chronicles in Matenadaran on April 24 has turned a new page in the history of eternal humanitarian values.
The manuscript will be safekept with more than 20,000 hand-written documents of great historical value being currently housed in Matenadaran, an important center for preserving Armenian heritage and humanitarian values. A manuscript like that, crafted according to the ancient Armenian traditions, has been created in this Institute for the first time: the parchment, as well as all other materials used to make the “Chronicles of Aurora”, were natural. “Chronicles of Aurora” will be showcased in the main showroom of Matenadaran from April 24 to June 10, 2018.
On June 10, 2018, the name of 2018 Aurora Prize Laureate will be inscribed in the Chronicles. Aurora Prize is founded on behalf of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide and in gratitude to their saviors. The manuscript will later be illustrated with miniatures, painted according to the tradition of Armenian miniature painting. There will be new stories about Aurora Humanitarian Initiative added to the “Chronicles of Aurora” every year.
