Their life and actions guarantee the safe existence of others. Thanks to their devotion and courage tens, hundreds, thousands of people were spared a terrible fate. Neither wars nor natural disasters nor terrorism can stop them. In Africa, Middle East, Latin America and other ends of the world they invest not only their time, resources and security but also the most valuable – their life – to make the world a better place to live. These people live next to us. They are modern day heroes.
Dr. Josephine Kulea is an activist and the founder of the Samburu Girls Foundation. She is a tireless advocate for girls’ education and freedom from the bondage of early childhood marriage. Determined not to remain passive while young girls were being assaulted, abused, mutilated, and, if pregnant, forced to kill their own children, Josephine took action by opening her home to rescue them from these horrific situations. She lives next to us. She is a modern day hero.
