The Aurora Dialogues, a series of discussions bringing together leading humanitarians, academics, philanthropists and media experts, took place on April 23, 2016 in Armenia. The dialogues, held ahead of the inaugural Aurora Prize ceremony, centered on the modern world’s most pressing humanitarian issues.
Dr. Josephine Kulea founded the Samburu Girls Foundation (SGF) in 2011 as a non-governmental organization dedicated to rescuing at-risk girls in Kenya. Her remarkable work has earned her numerous awards and recognition, including praise from President Barack Obama during his visit to Kenya. Dr. Josephine Kulea serves on the Advisory Board of VOICE, an innovative grant facility based in the Netherlands. Her dream is to see the eradication of harmful cultural practices for a prosperous Kenya and Africa as a whole.
On behalf of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide and in gratitude to their saviors, the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity is granted to an individual whose actions have had an exceptional impact on preserving human life and advancing humanitarian causes. The Aurora Prize Laureate is honored with a US $100,000 grant. In addition, that individual has the unique opportunity to continue the cycle of giving by nominating organizations that inspired their work to receive a US $1,000,000 award.
