AURORA PRIZE FINALIST BERNARD KINVI COMES TO ARMENIA

Aurora Prize Finalist Father Bernard Kinvi arrived in Yerevan on April 21 from Bossemptele in the Central African Republic.

As a first stop, he visited the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the nearby Zvartnots Cathedral, a 7th-century Armenian cathedral now in ruins. In 2012, civil war broke out in the Central African Republic between Muslim Seleka rebels and the anti-balaka (anti-machete) Christian militia. Amidst the violence, Father Kinvi’s mission provided refuge and health services to those on both sides of the conflict, saving hundreds of people from persecution and death. For his courage and heroism, Father Kinvi received an award from Human Rights Watch and was nominated for the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity.
