2018 Aurora Trilogy Highlights

The 2018 Aurora Prize Ceremony was divided into three parts that took part on June 8-10, 2018 in Armenia. The events were titled “Aurora: Honoring Humanitarians,” “Aurora: Awakening Humanity” and “Aurora: Tribute to the 2018 Laureate.”

The first part was an evening program at the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies that took place on June 9. This event, entitled “Aurora: Honoring Humanitarians,” introduced the 2018 Aurora Humanitarians – Kyaw Hla Aung (Myanmar), Sunitha Krishnan (India) and Father Tomás González Castillo (Mexico).

The second part, “Aurora: Awakening Humanity,” was a sunrise ceremony that took place outside Yerevan, as close to Mount Ararat as it’s possible to get, within Armenia’s borders. The timing and the location were both symbolic. Aurora means ‘dawn’ and is dedicated to awakening humanity. The presentation of the 2018 Aurora Laureate was made there, at dawn, in the presence of a relatively small community of invited humanitarians.

The third and final part of the program, an evening ceremony titled “Aurora: Tribute to the 2018 Laureate,” took place on June 10 at the A. Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. There, the Co-Founders of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative and guests gathered to celebrate the power of humanity and exceptional courage and impact of the 2018 Aurora Prize Laureate Kyaw Hla Aung from Myanmar.
