Aurora Dialogues New York 2018 Overview

Aurora Dialogues New York 2018 “Solidarity Beyond Borders: Stepping Up When Others Step Back”, organized jointly by the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, will take place in New York on March 1, 2018. This event will bring together Aurora Prize finalists and distinguished humanitarian figures to discuss what drives them to risk their lives to stand up for others in challenging situations. The Aurora Dialogues is a platform for the world’s leading humanitarians, academics, philanthropists, business leaders, and civil society to come together for a series of insightful discussions about some of today’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.

In keeping with the spirit of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, the Aurora Dialogues shines a light on the people who are working to address today’s atrocities in a real and substantial manner and seek to identify ideas that will deliver tangible change. The Core Programming of the Dialogues is held annually in Armenia as part of a weekend of events culminating with the presentation of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity.

The inaugural 2016 Aurora Dialogues were held on April 23, 2016 in Matenadaran, Yerevan. Participants, including Aurora Prize Selection Committee members Hina Jilani, Shirin Ebadi and Gareth Evans, offered their views on the global refugee crisis, the role of women in the humanitarian community, and the role of the media in bringing humanitarian crises to the world’s attention.

‘’Galvanizing the World’’, the 2017 Aurora Dialogues, took place in Armenia on May 27-28, when many distinguished guests have gathered in the country to tackle the problems of ensuring education for all, positioning the role of the media in raising the world’s humanitarian issues, protecting human rights, creating role models, overcoming adversity and empowering refugees.

The Additional Aurora Dialogues Programming includes conferences and public lectures that are held internationally aiming to bring together leaders with the unique expertise and contribute to finding solutions to the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.

The Aurora Dialogues Berlin 2017, “Millions on the Move: Need for Development and Integration,” was held on December 4th and 5th in Berlin – chosen due to the significance of the theme to both Germany and the European Union. The event, attended by key humanitarian and human rights figures including Mary Robinson, Leymah Gbowee and Norbert Lammert, sought to catalyze conversation and propose ideas on how Germany and the EU could identify solutions to the most pressing global migration and refugee challenges.
